Frequently Asked Questions

ARE THERE ANY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH BECOMING A VOLUNTEER?
Mission Hospice covers 100% of all costs related to becoming a volunteer.

WHAT IS MY TIME COMMITMENT AS A VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week for 1 year. This allows patient visit volunteers to experience a diverse cross-section of patients and families and acquire a broader understanding of hospice care.

I DO NOT LIVE IN SOUTH PASADENA, AND I’D LIKE TO VISIT PATIENTS. CAN I STILL VOLUNTEER?
Absolutely, in fact the further you are away the better. We see patients in homes and nursing facilities all over Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, and the San Fernando Valley. We’ll assign you to patients as close to where you live as possible. Our volunteers live all the way from Canoga Park to Chino Hills.

WILL I HAVE CHANCE TO RECONNECT WITH THE VOLUNTEERS FROM MY TRAINING?
We have monthly volunteer meetings held here at the Mission Hospice office in South Pasadena. This gives us an opportunity to discuss our cases confidentially as well as giving and receiving support from other volunteers. We also have a National Volunteer Week Dinner in April and Holiday Luncheon in December.
